Object - the process of studying, generalizing and disseminating of progressive pedagogical experience; the aim - to find out and characterize the specific aspects of progressive pedagogical experience reflecting by mass media during the second part of XX century in order to creatively use the acquired experience in present day secondary schools; methods - historical-structural, historical-genetic, historical-chronological, problem and goal-oriented, projected; novelty -the research is the first to analyse and characterize the role of mass media in the reflection of progressive pedagogical experience in the given chronological period; the pedagogical problems that were discussed by mass media as progressive pedagogical experience have been characterized; the forms of reflection of the theory and practice of progressive pedagogical experience in mass media have been generalized; the stages in the reflection of progressive pedagogical experience by mass media have been determined; the prognostic tendencies of reflecting the problems of progressive pedagogical experience by mass media have been defined. The approaches to revealing the essence of progressive pedagogical experience as practical optimally organized activity ensuring the best educational result have been investigated; results - the materials of the research enrich History of Pedagogy as a science with the ideas dealing with the dynamics of changes in the understanding of the term "progressive pedagogical experience", its criteria, functions, content and forms (study, generalizing, implementation, disseminating) and with the data concerning the role of mass media in the reflection of progressive pedagogical experience at each of the substantiated stages. The special teaching course "Progressive Pedagogical Experience: Theory and Practice" based on the research materials has been worked out and used in the teaching process; field - pedagogy
