Essay

The paper analyzed the scientific sources of research problems, substantiated the basic concepts, elucidated key trends in the development of teaching methods of spelling at the different stages of language education and defined the conceptual approaches of development of the spelling competence of the first-year students of philological specialities in pedagogical universities. The concept of "spelling competence of the first-year students of philological specialities" was clarified, the expediency of establishing of problem tasks and exercises was substantiated and worked out according to the interlevel links and the intensive spelling practical textbook. The method of spelling competence of the first-year students offered according to the conditions of the adaptation period of study of the students-philologists, based on the involving of resource of the didactic material, developed on the interlevel basis and active methods, receptions of studies during the learning of Ukrainian language. The results of the pedagogical experiment confirmed the effectiveness of the methods of development of spelling competence of the first-year students of philological specialities in pedagogical universities.
