Gludz M. The poetics of the tragic by Е. М. Remark

The thesis presents the comprehensive study of the relationship issues and poetics in the novels of the German writer Erich Maria Remark (1898-1970). The investigation is made chronologically with including his other works (plays, screenplays, stories, novels, poetry, comics, interviews, essays, correspondence, etc.) to the scientific research that became well-known only to a narrow range of Remark connoisseurs in the last decades. The study elucidates and specifies the meaning of such important literary category as "poetics"; it analyses the Remark's novel heritage of different periods that is implemented mainly through the category of tragic. The objective of this dissertation is to examine Remark's novels and the subject is to explore the peculiarities of the poetics in his works that defines art conflicts making the basis of the stories and influencing on the development of images and characters. In the conclusion it is highlighted that the tragic in Remark's works is depicted differently at early, middle-aged and late stages of his life starting from social content to biological and immanent.
