Essay

New data on the features of the beginning of clinical neurophysiologic and neuroimaging manifestations of symptomatic partial epilepsy in children of different age groups are obtained on the basis of a comprehensive clinical and instrumental examination. It is found that all age groups are characterized by a predominance of frontal and temporal forms when the largest number of patients with resistant disease course is determined; the beginning of frontal and occipital epilepsy is often found under the age of 3; temporal lobe epilepsy often starts at the age of 7 to 10 years. Significant criteria for symptomatic epilepsy are the presence of such changes on the electroencephalogram as epileptic activity and slowing of background activity. The meaning of neuroimaging examination of the brain is found in order to determine volume of the therapy and prognosis of the disease. The most characteristic symptoms of disorders of mental functions in symptomatic partial epilepsy are researched. Age-dependent indicators of efficacy and manifestations of side effects of antiepileptic drugs are determined. First model for prognosis of symptomatic partial epilepsy in children is developed.
