Essay

This dissertation focuses on the problem of deictic markers of evaluation of "one's own/alien" space in the English Biblical text. The key notions of the research are: the world of the first person, the world of the second person, the world of the third person, personal markers of evaluation, spatial markers of evaluation, temporal markers of evaluation of "one's own/alien" space. It has been found out that deictic markers of "one's own/alien" space that belong to the nucleus of the deictic functional-semantic field are manifested by personal, possessive and demonstrative pronouns, adverbs of space and time. Evaluative markers are expressed mainly by adjectives, nouns and verbs. The comprehensive analysis has resulted in revealing lexical-semantic, syntactic, communicative and pragmatic characteristics of sentences with personal, spatial and temporal markers in the English Bible. On the basis of quantitative data it has been pointed out that in the analyzed text there exists a tendency to positive evaluation of "one's own" space and negative evaluation of "alien" space. Positive evaluation of "one's own" space predominates. "One's own" space is evaluated more often than "alien" because it is characteristic of a person to evaluate foremost everything surrounding him and everybody he communicates with. Key words: the world of the first person, the world of the second person, the world of the third person, "one's own/alien" space, personality, spatiality, temporality.
