Essay

The dissertation is the complex philosophical research that devoted to the nature of new synthetic religions (NSR) and the role of postmodern trends in the transformation of their faith. The author proposes a new conceptual foundation for understanding the essence of NSR through the prism of the sociocultural situation in which they are functioning. The consonance with the attitudes, expectations and tendencies inherented to today's postmodern culture, such as openness, democratic character, tolerance, pluralism and also eclecticism, uncertainty, fragmentation and pragmatism, promotes the strengthening of new synthetic religion's ideas. The eclecticism is identified as the main characteristic of NSR. Their doctrines are formed gradually, all the time absorbing new ideological and practical elements from other religions. Unlike the other types of new religions, synthetic neoreligions appear as a separate formation in which many components (religious and nonreligious, in particular the different scientific knowledge) are artificially combined. Accordingly, the pragmatism and individualism determine the specificity of postmodern synthetic religiosity.
