The thesis is a complex examination of criminological characteristics and smuggling prevention in Ukraine. As a result, two types of smuggling that characterize it as situational or as a type of criminal activity, are determined. The criminological definition of smuggling as criminal activity is suggested. The general principles of smuggling prevention in Ukraine are determined. They are divided into conceptual, general and social, special and criminological measures of smuggling prevention in Ukraine.
