The object of the research is B. Pilniak's prose in the 1920-s; The purpose of the research is a system-comprehensive analysis of "The Tale of the Unextinguished Moon" and "Mahogany" in connection of their problematics and poetics, a revelation of their antitotalitarian content and prognostic nature; The methods of the research are: descriptive, biographic, cultural historical, comparative typological, structural, the method of intertextual analysis. The novelty of the research is determined by the following facts: for the first time B. Pilniak's creative legacy is considered in connection with the processes of totalitarian political system formation and theoretically methodological principles of the social realism literature; a new concept "the image of totalitarianism" has been introduced and defined; the author's antitotalitarian humanistic conception of the world and the man has become a subject of system-comprehensive study; "The Tale of the Unextinguished Moon" and "Mahogany" have been analysed within the context of writer's works in the 1920-s and the literature process of the first third of the 20-th century; for the first time the extensive selection of figurative means which helped the writer to create the general image of totalitarianism has been examined. The results of the research may be used in preparing courses on the history of the first third of the 20-th century Russian literature, special literature courses, in further researches dealing with Boris Pilniak's creative activities. The area of research is philology.
