Dissertation is devoted to theoretical and experimental study of the problem of cognitive interest of the elementary school pupils to study mathematics by the history of science. The paper discloses the gist of the concept of "cognitive interest", its types, functions, sources and development. Dissertation produces schematic model of forms including material on the history of mathematics in teaching. Criterions of its selection were formulated. The development of cognitive interest of pupils in grades 5 - 9 learning mathematics by the history of science were theoretically and experimentally verified. The technology of introduction of these techniques and the relevant teaching and learning materials were developed.
