The thesis deals with the complex study of historical, legal and socio-political aspects of civil society in the Ukrainian political and legal thought of the XIX – early XX century. Within the study of doctrinal foundations of the civil society, the state of scientific study of the problem is considered. Evolution of scientific views on the genesis of the idea of civil society in the Ukrainian political and legal thought of the XIX – early XX century is observed on the base on the analysis of scientific papers of Ukrainian and foreign scientists.
