The object: word-symbols in Ukrainian poetic language; the aim: to define the peculiarities of lexical and semantic structure of word-symbols of the 80–90’s of the XXth century poetic language and to study the combinability specificity of the author’s individual as well as traditional symbols; methods: descriptive, contextual analysis method, elements of componential analysis; the novelty: the features of the 80–90’s of the XXth century Ukrainian poetic language are studies; the transformation of polyfunctional traditional symbols within the context of ideological struggle and cultural changes of the period mentioned is analyzed; findings: the cultural specificity of verbal symbols is expanded; literary symbols as an essential part of the poet’s language picture of the world are represented; the illustrative material is compiled into "The Dictionary of poetic language symbols of the 80–90’s of the XXth century"; the branch: the Ukrainian language.
