Essay

In the dissertation the complex and unprejudiced analyzes of the scientific studies of the statehood building process in Ukraine by native and foreign historians of law is made. The author systematized historical and legal studies of 1917–2012 period, clarified their informational and conceptual value for the understanding of key aspects of modern history of state and law of Ukraine, revealed main approaches, methods and special features of scientific research of this problem. The comparative analyzes of the contribution made by Soviet, foreign and modern Ukrainian historians of law in the studying of statehood building activity during the Central Council of Ukraine, Ukrainian State, Directorate of Ukraine, West Ukrainian People’s Republic periods. The author focuses on the contemporary studies by Ukrainian legal scholars, which were composed in the conditions of Ukrainian state sovereignty. Special attention is paid to the debatable and less-investigated aspects of the scientific works by legal scholars. The research problems which need further study, reassessment and scientific interpretation are outlined.
