Essay

Dissertation work examines the phenomenon of intertextuality and reception of contemporary literature. According to the author, intertextuality proves a postmodern phenomenon of reinterpretation of classic and new texts, giving them new meanings and establishing parallels with modern literature, which is reflected in an adequate interpretation of their genre and stylistic forms, the interpretation of philosophical concepts, iconic fictional and aesthetic phenomena. The author understands intertextuality as a continuous process of interaction between texts and ideologies in the form of inclusions of quotations, allusions, reminiscences, contrasting the style of the text that contains them. Thus, under conditions of intertextual interaction, the literary work becomes part of a broad intertextual space that covers not only literary, but also outside of literature forms of expression, and any text is in various "dialogical" relations with other texts that fill this space with different language codes that are represented in this space. The intertextual paradigm of J. Roth's texts includes the actual knowledge and fictionalization, the reality and myths of coexistence of ethnic groups of Galicia Volhynia borderland, and later - the reconstructions of biographies of "men without fatherland", immigrants, refugees, that shows mental problems of otherness, the loss of center, dialogue between identity and difference. This is clearly demonstrated by allusions of travels of the heroes of the writer's works with the motives of travels of the "eternal images" - Odysseus and Ahasuerus. And that's the way the image of the traveller (vagabond) in J. Roth's prose is extrapolated to similar motifs and images in the European literature. It is proved that the key to understanding the author's literary world is contained in the individual archetypes and the biography of the writer. An intercultural dimension of J. Roth's work was determined of the multicultural character of his native city (Brody) and region (Galicia), and later - of cosmopolitan European capitals, where the author had to live and work (Vienna, Berlin, Paris). In view of constant contact with foreign neighborhood the feature of literary work of J. Roth was intercultural competence.
