The object of investigation are the translations of Shakespeare's texts " Othello", "Hamlet", "Macbeth", "Merchant of Venice", "Sonnets" by M. Kostomarov, P. Sventsitsky, Y. Fedkovych, M. Starytsky, P. Kulish, Lesya Ukrainka, I. Franko. The purpose of dissertation is in comparative analyses of the artistic reception of Shakespeare's creative inheritance in the translations of the Ukrainian writers of the nineteenth century. The theoretical meaning of investigation lies both in understanding and analyzing the reception of Shakespeare in Ukraine during the establishment national trends in Ukrainian literature of the nineteenth century, and foreshortening new reading Shakespeare texts by the Ukrainian authors of specified period. The results of the investigation is fundamentally important to further define new aspects of formal and semantic transformations of Shakespeare works in the translations of the Ukrainian authors of the nineteenth century. The scientific novelty of the dissertation is the first time conducted a comprehensive analysis of the translating Shakespeare's reception in the cultural paradigm of Ukraine in the nineteenth century in the aspect of comparative literature. The new facts as to translating activity and the original works of the Ukrainian translators can significantly complement the imagination of the mechanisms of artistic reception of Shakespeare's sonnets and works in Ukraine were revealed. Different approaches to Shakespeare's texts in the translation of Ukrainian writers of the nineteenth century were systematized. The patterns of transformation inherent to Shakespeare image system in the Ukrainian translations of the nineteenth century were investigated. The practical meaning is based on the possibilities of using the results during the preparing lectures from comparative literature and the history of foreign literature, in special courses devoted to Shakespeare creation, theory and practice of translation, at the philological faculties and the faculties of learning foreign languages, by the teachers of philology at the lessons of foreign literature, by the students during their course work and diploma project, and also in preparing of educational and methodological textbooks of literary and cultural character.
