Shershnyova A. Image Building in English Oriental Poetic Miniatures: A Cognitive-Semiotic Perspective

This dissertation focuses on the study of image building specificity in English oriental poetic miniatures by way of integrating cognitive poetic and semiotic approaches. Сonstituent genre features of the analyzed poetry have been singled out. Typology of image-building means in English haiku with regard to their functioning and origin has been suggested. Varieties of iconicity tightly linked to image-building tools in this genre of poetry have been established. Image building in English oriental poetic miniatures is viewed as a process and result of the interaction involving genre features of English haiku, its basic (analogical and conversive), borrowed (associative and ideogrammic) and subsidiary (phonographemic and graphical) imagery as well as imagiс, diagrammatiс and schematic iconicity, giving rise to the emotion image – a global image of English haiku.
