Essay

The origin and development of the idea of federalism in the Ukrainian political and legal thought in the middle XIX – beginning of XX c. have been investigated. The historiography, sources, theoretical and methodological approa¬ches towards federalism ideas study have been considered and analyzed. Main tendencies of federalism ideas in the Ukrainian political and legal thought development in the period of Ukrainian lands under Russian and Austro-Hungarian Empire have been studied and analyzed. The features of federalism ideas in the period of national liberation struggle 1917-1921 have been displayed.
