Essay

Dissertation is devoted to investigation of species composition, distribution, and dynamics of alternaria and phoma leaf spots in sugar beet under conditions of the central Forest-Steppe of Ukraine and improving the system of crop protection. High levels of disease severity causes crop losses: yield decreases by 11,9-17,1 t/ha, sugar content is reduced by 1,2-1,9 %. It is proved that crop residues of sugar beets, which are leaved on the ground surface can be a source of infection of Alternaria spp. and Phoma betae while their plowing prevents the spread of diseases. Our studies showed that application of organic and mineral fertilizers reduces infestation of leaves of this culture with alternaria and phoma spots. Technical and agronomic efficiency of modern fungicides against alternaria and phoma leaf spots was defined. Economic efficiency of their application was evaluated.
