Essay

The work is devoted to the study of lipid peroxidation, antioxidant system, enzymatic defense system periodontal immune status in experimental inflammation of periodontal tissues and pathogenetic substantiation of application of melatonin in gingivitis and periodontitis. Found that in the pathogenesis of experimental gingivitis and periodontitis plays a significant role violation prooxidant-antioxidant homeostasis, manifested by activation of lipid peroxidation and decrease in the activity of antioxidant enzymes in the serum and in the periodontal tissue homogenates. Analysis of the results of the study showed that the development of inflammatory diseases comes amid changes in cellular and humoral general immune status and cytokine imbalance is accompanied by: the activation of the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IFN-gama and reduced production of anti-inflammatory IL-4. The use of exogenous melatonin in experimental inflammation of the periodontal tissues leads to normalization of all parametrs/
