Essay

The dissertation is focused on the important issue in urology i.e. the role of percutaneous needle nephrostomy in treating patients with the complete upper urinary tract (UUT) obstruction and renal insufficiency (RI) by comparing the results of existing methods of treatment for this group of patients. There was found the quickest positive dynamics of perioperative indices and survival rate in patients who underwent percutaneous needle nephrostomy (PNN) as compared to the traditional methods of treatment of the pathology. The proposed therapeutic approach makes it possible to reduce the perioperative mortality of patients with the complete UUT obstruction and RI, to prevent the onset and progression of possible complications when choosing other therapeutic approaches. The use of the developed algorithm of treating patients with the complete UUT obstruction and RI by means of PNN will lead to a rapid RI compensation; it will make possible to avoid deaths, improve treatment outcomes, reduce hospital stay twice, as compared with the patients who underwent open surgical intervention, UUT catheterization or hemodialysis.
