The issue of the creation of an author's myth about the Cossacks in the Ukrainian historical novels of 50?60s years of XX century is studied in the dissertation. The peculiarities of an author's myth based on traditional folk ideas are considered, and the mechanisms of an author's myth creation are defined in the research. The usage of fiction that reflects an author's interests and beliefs and the idea illustrated with imaginary and emotional pictures of the world represent the specific features of an author's myth about Cossacks.
