Essay

The work is devoted to the complex research of formation and development of the judicial system of Taurida Governorate the end XVII - the first half of the XIX century with the aim to reveal the peculiarities of its organization and functioning in accordance with the judicial system of the Russian empire. The author reproduced the process of establishment of judicial bodies on the territory of the governorate. The legal regulation of creation of courts was investigated, basic principles of construction of the judiciary were identified, and its structure was found. The issues were considered in details related to the formation of personnel, material support of judicial officials, the competence and activity of the courts was analyzed. It is proved that the judicial system of Taurida Governorate of the pre-reform period in its structure, organization and administrative apparatus was identical to the judicial system of the Russian empire. However, distinguishing characteristics took place in its judicial system associated first of all with multinational structure of the population of this region, its polyconfessional structure. This led to the establishment of special judiciary within the existing judicial system, such as Karasubazar Roman Catholic, Taurida Mohammedan spiritual and commercial courts.
