The thesis expands on the essence, types, forms and socioeconomic consequences of unemployment in transition economies, the evolution of views on the causes of unemployment in the world economic science. The research on the impact of unemployment on national output and other macroeconomic variables dynamics in transitional economies has been made. The set of conceptual, methodological, scientific and practical provisions on the improvement of the system of government regulation of the labor market in transition economy of Ukraine has been suggested.
