Essay

Object: light model of age-related cataract. Purpose: to prove substantiation of carotenoid's application for age-related cataract prevention system on the basis of the experimental determination of carotenoid's stabilizing action possibility on the lens at age-related cataract modeling by method of light irradiation. Methods: ophthalmoscopic, biophysical, biochemical, statistical; SF-26 spectrophotometer, Specol 210, slit lamp. Established protective effect of carotenoids (lutein and zeaxthin) on lens optical properties at light model of age-related cataract, revealed a pronounced stabilizing effect on the biophysical properties of len's components after light exposure in vitro in terms of light scattering, light absorption and fluorescence. There were confirmed as follows: carotenoid's protective effect on the thiol groups of the lens proteins in the experiment, reduced level of glutathione in the lens and the inhibition of peroxidation at light model of age-related cataract. For the first time it was found: carotenoid's stabilizing effect on the state of the enzymatic antioxidant system in experimental cataractogenesis, preventive action of lipid hydroperoxides neutralizative processes in the lens when exposed cataractogenous factor; identified complex scientific facts about anticataractogenous action of carotenoids in modeling of age-related cataract, their direct stabilizing effect on the lens substance and the activation of the enzymatic antioxidant system experimentally proves the feasibility of lutein and zeaxanthin for age-related cataract prevention. Results have been implemented at the SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy Of NAMS of Ukraine". Sphere of application - medicine (ophthalmology).
