Essay

In the dissertation thematic groups of the names of clothes, footwear, kitchen appliances and food in Pidhaytsi region dialects are investigated. Lexical-semantic groups are isolated and characterized within each thematic group. For each identified nomination semantic features are marked, etymology, internal form or word from which it is derived are found out, ways and means of names are identified.A characteristic feature for the analyzed thematic groups of the names of clothes, footwear, kitchen appliances and food of Pidhaytsi region is the presence of regular oppositions of semes, which are formed by a number of typical differential features, for example for the thematic groups of names of footwear and clothes typical semantic features can be: "method of manufacturing", "cut", "material", "way of wearing", "time of wearing", "commonly used", "sex", "appearance", "names of parts of footwear"; for the thematic group of the names of kitchen appliances it is: "functionality", "material", "size"; for the thematic group of the names of food it is: "way of cooking", "time of meal", "types of dishes". Constituent elements of this system are internally organized and united by the lexical-semantic groups. Each lexical-semantic group covers a greater or lesser number of semantemes that are represented by a specific number of nominations. Each of the items of clothing, footwear, kitchen appliances and food within their lexical-semantic group is characterized according to the certain parameters: the semantics of the lexeme is found, the list of the settlements in the dialects of which nomination is attested is given. For each identified nomination etymology, internal form or the word from which it is derived is found; ways and means of nomination are identified - affixal derivation, borrowing from other languages, semantic derivation, and compound name.
