The object is the evolution of the theory and practice of protectionism in the system of economic relations of Ukraine XIX - early XX centuries. Research purpose is the determination of the impact of the protectionism on the development of the Ukrainian lands which were part of the Russian Empire in the XIX - early XX centuries. Methods and techniques - comparative and historical, grouping, classification, diachronic, statistical, methods of systematization and generalization. Theoretical and practical results - the scientific and practical approach to the determination of the principles of effective protectionist policy in the present conditions is proposed based on the theoretical study of features of influence of the protectionism on the economy of the Ukrainian lands XIX - early XX centuries.
