Essay

The thesis is a study of the mythological subject of Ukrainian impersonal sentences by using functional, semantic and cognitive-cultural parameters. The main objective of the study is to analyze subject syntaxeme of impersonal sentences denoting nature's external states and person's internal states as well as verify the author's hypothesis of the mythological subject being present in the modern language. The author substantiates the use of cognitive science paradigm in creating a working concept and defining the traditional term such as subject sentences with no explicit subject. She establishes and discusses six types of impersonal sentences from four models, taking into account their formal grammatical, semantic syntactical properties and also ways of manifestation and realization in speech act of the mythological subject. Proceeding from their semantic features within cultural context, she creates a cognitive-psychological and a sensory-mythological classification as well as a classification of Ukrainian impersonal syntactic structures. She forms a methodology for experimental study of cultural, psychological and conceptual aspects of impersonal sentences and, by the use of an integrated approach, establishes the status of impersonal sentence's mythological subject in Ukrainian.
