The place of countenance and punishment in the legal status structure of convicts and the personnel of correctional facilities has been analyzed. Theoretical foundations for essence and value of applying countenance and punishment to those convicted to the imprisonment have been highlighted. The principles for applying the means of countenance and punishment to the convicts while executing the imprisonment and the guarantees of their practical implementation have been examined. The grounds and procedure of applying the means of countenance and punishment while executing imprisonment. The suggestions for improving criminal and penitentiary legislation have been outlaid on the basis of carried out analysis.
