The thesis presents a versatile study of civil society as an influential agent of system transformation in Bulgaria. The study surveys the basic ideological and theoretical ideas and concepts of the civil society and its place in the transformation process. The research was aimed at investigating NGOs' institutionalization, public opinion and the media. The focus was revolved around the political, cultural, social, psychological and historical factors of their establishment. Noteworthy, the interdependence of civil society and democratic reforms was given an in-depth analysis.
