Shkinder-Barmina A. Economical and biological evaluation of sour cherry cultivars in the conditions of the Southern Steppe of Ukraine.

Dissertation study concentrates on evaluation of biological features of sour cherry and duke cultivars in the conditions of the Southern Steppe of Ukraine. Field winter and frost resistance of generative buds and bourgeons of the cvs, resistance against monilia and coccomycosis was determined. Organogenesis of generative buds, meiosis during microsporogenesis and quality of the pollen were studied. High yield cultivars were found out, characteristics of the fruit quality and chemical composition of the fruit was given. Mathematical models of relationship between yield of cultivars and weather conditions of the Southern Steppe of Ukraine were developed. Based on the generalization of the results, best cultivars of sour cherry for the Southern Steppe of Ukraine were determined, they are recommended for full production testing and use in selection process that has a goal of obtaining new high yield cultivars with high quality fruit.
