Historical and legal research of the ownership institute development in Ukrainian territories as a part of the Russian Empire in the late 18th - early 19th centuries has been conducted in the dissertation. The condition of scientific development of the subject under the study, geographical, theoretical and methodological principles, normative sources of legal ownership in Ukraine have been determined. The influence of customary law and the law of Polish-Lithuanian period on the development of the property institution in the Russian Empire has been analyzed. Special attention has been paid to the presentation of the procedure of acquisition, enforcement and protection of subjective property rights and the right to establish easement in Ukrainian territories as a part of the Russian Empire in the late 18th - early 19th centuries.
