Essay

The thesis is devoted to the study of the key Confucian moral/ethical concepts in their cognitive aspect and in their representation in discourse. The work aims to determine and describe the core characteristics of the key Confucian moral/ethical concepts as a complex entity in notional, metaphoric, and axiological aspects. This is an investigation in the field of cognitive linguistics. The key Confucian moral/ethical concepts, particularly their functioning in the phraseological units of the Chinese language 'chengyu', is in the center of attention. The semantic meaning verbalized in the 'chengyu' is set and analyzed in this entry. The field model for each of the key Confucian moral/ethical concept and the notion of the concept within the linguistic paradigm are determined and depicted in the thesis. The results of our study allow us to determine specific national, cultural, and linguistic features of the key Confucian moral/ethical concepts.
