Essay

The thesis deals with the study of language actualization peculiarities of concept AMERICA in Ukrainian newspaper texts at the beginning of the 21-st Century, written in the context of linguocultural research. The investigation has ascertained that concept AMERICA is a complex multitudinous formation, which is actualized in newspaper texts by means of two ways: naming America a country as well as denominating American realia (territory, population, artefacts, etc.). As a result of the analysis of newspaper material it has come to light, that for verbalizing the concept under study the following nominative means are used: a word, a preposition-noun construction, a word group, a syntagma and a sentence. Frame modelling has been applied in the study that enabled systematization and representation of the collected material in the form of hierarchical structure, containing objective data about the concept under investigation. The role of conceptual metaphor in actualizing figurative features of concept AMERICA has been ascertained and its basic metaphoric models have been established. The ways and means of verbalizing its evaluative and stereotyped features have also been revealed.
