The thesis deals with the theoretical and practical issues of socio-educational work with the sentenced to imprisonment. The current scientific development of theory and practice in socio-educational work with the sentenced has been examined. The analysis of the concept and main features of the socio-educational work with the sentenced to imprisonment has been made. The goal and objectives of socio-educational work with the convicts have been highlighted. The international standards and foreign experience in socio-educational work and similar activities in other countries had been studied. The forms and methods of regulating socio-educational work with the imprisoned are considered. The issue of authorities who implement this activity was resolved. It has been stated that according to the results, received during the research of the convicts' needs and records, it is necessary to develop the program of social and educational work, including the means for guaranteeing the convict's needs, defined on the estimation stage. The focus has been made on the necessity for setting the departments by grouping the convicts basing literally on the similarity of their personal features in order to provide the required level of socio-educational work. Herewith while choosing a certain form or method of socio-educational work it is necessary to keep in mind the specifics of separate convicts categories in the correctional facilities too, particularly, based on the criterion of "vulnerability", the latter includes HIV-infected, tubercular, elderly, pregnant women and women with newborn children and minor convicts. The features of the above-mentioned categories of convicts impact the specifications of the required life skills and correspondingly indicate the determinative directions of socio-educational work with them. The propositions to improve the existing legislation were made based on the carried out analysis.
