Essay

The objective of the following research is to establish the methodological foundations for architectural and planning organization of reconstruction of the type design hotels, built in 1960-80s in Ukraine. The object of the research is the type design hotels built in Ukraine in 1960-80s.The case study is the architectural organization and planning of the type design hotels under reconstruction. Methodology: the general method of the research is based on the complex functional and structural analysis, including full-scale survey, statistical analysis, complex analysis of impacts, semi-graphical analysis of the initial data, structural, functional and dimensional modeling, exploratory design, economic analysis and expert evaluation. The scientific novelty of the results consists in systematization of the type design hotel projects developed in the former Soviet Union in 1960-1980s, its classification and outlines for future reconstruction; in identifying the town-planning and functional influence on the reconstruction of hotels of different type series; in establishing their difference from the contemporary hotels and hotel-type units by means of comparative analysis; in formulating the main principles of reconstruction of the type design hotels; in proposing for the first time the methods of functional and structural transformation of the type design hotel buildings, combined with the methods of economic analysis of appropriateness and effectiveness of reconstruction measures; in developing the modernization techniques in architectural, spatial, constructional, engineering, technical, aesthetic and graphic decisions for reconstruction of the type design hotels.
