Zinyakova V. Language and semantic universe of religious tradition and its relationship with the sacred texts of the untranslatable

Dissertation is dedicated to the analysis of linguistic and semantic universe of religious traditions of Judaism and Christianity. It is noted that the formation of unique meanings of any religious tradition is associated with the language of everyday life and interpretation of its sacred text. It is proved that this uniqueness lies in untranslatability of sacred texts, in those senses of the language, which it is impossible to reconstitute absolutely identically in another language. The dissertation considers specific untranslatable meanings of Tanakh, Septuagint and Ukrainian translations of the Bible. It illustrates how the formation of the biblical meanings depends on the structure and linguistic connotations of Hebrew, Greek and Ukrainian languages and general semantic universe of respective religious traditions. Together with general philological issues, related to the loss or change of meaning of the original text in translation, there are also problems of impossibility of reproduction of meanings sacralised in the language.
