The object is the books by V. Burenin "Turgenev's Literary Activities" (1884), "Critical Essays and Pamphlets" (1884), and "Critical Studies" (1888); the aim is to identify the features of problems and of genre and style originality of three books by V.P. Burenin of 1880-s; the methods are holistic, typological, structural, functional; the novelty is that for the first time a try to understand the aesthetic foundation of V. Burenin in 1880-s, as a stage of his creative evolution, was made; different ways of literary critics of the second half of the XIX-th century are followed up and the features of common cultural models are studied; social-philosophical and aesthetic factors of V. Burenin's historical and literary concept are analyzed; the correlation of publicistic and critical and analytical sources in the writer's literary and critical books are described; their genre features are defined; the history of creation and contents of his books of 1880-s are examined; the role of historical and literary and critical activity of V. Burenin is specified; the results can be used at higher educational institution courses of the History of Russian Literature and Literary Critics of the end of the XIX th - the beginning of the XXs centuries, in special courses and seminars, devoted to the History of Critics; field - Philology.
