Essay

The object of the thesis is the novel "Fortune Inconstant, or the Peregrinations of Miramond" by F.A. Emin. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the first Russian novel as the novel of self-trail, an original ethic and esthetic phenomenon within formation of the national literary consciousness. The following methods were used in the research: comparative and historical, the stylistic and integral methods. The novelty of the thesis is in the introduction of a concept of the self-trail novel genre as the national genre version of the novel to the historic and literary terminological base. The hypothesis, according to which F. Emin's novel became one of the first attempts of formation the original concept of the hero in the Russian literature, is made in the thesis. The concept of a plot parallelism as a compositional prototype of the classical Russian novel is offered. There were made some reasonable assumptions about the sources of themes and plot of the novel "Fortune Inconstant…" which hadn't been studied in scientific literature yet. There was made an attempt of overcoming the methodological tendency of F. Emin's creativity analysis as imitative and compilative. The results of the conducted research may be applied at teaching the Russian literature of the 18th century at philological faculties at the higher educational establishments, within special courses and seminars, at courseworks and masters' theses. The field is philology.
