Essay

This study considered the results of theoretical and experimental research on coal charge modification by pyrolysis-volatile matter obtained from slightly metamorphosed coal, in order to receive a high grade metallurgical coke, as well as reduce the primary coking coal volume (e.g. J and K grades) in the charge. Developed coking coal method makes possible to modify a coal charge in coking chambers, at the same time enhancing its caking abilities by a partial hydrogenation process. Also, some new charge modification parameters proposed, while certain relations between coking properties changes and coking capacities in accordance with relevant parameters were established. It was performed a quality evaluation of the coke gained out of the modified coal charge. Evident interrelation between the coke quality and the change of coal charge composition has been found. These relations may be used to predict the derived coke quality. Thus, the process of a partial hydrogenation has a real positive impact on the qualitative parameters of coke, as indicated by industrial tests provided in this study. Materials of this thesis are of use in the dissertations and master's theses preparation at the department of Metallurgical Fuel and Reducers at the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine, by students of specialty 05.13.07 "Chemical technology of fuel and carbon materials".
