The science fiction works of 1950-80th with implicit and explicit fairy tale elements by American and Russian science fiction writers such as R. Bradbury, K. Simak, A. and B. Strugatsky, K. Bulychev is the object of dissertation. The aim of this dissertation is to make comparative analysis of authors' modifications of the folk fairy tale elements in the works of American and Russian science fiction writers with taking into account traditional folk semantics and peculiarities of the creative style of science fiction authors, which related with modeling the science fiction reality. Comparative historical, comparative typological and hermeneutic methods are used. The peculiarities of functioning of traditional fairy tale subjects, motifs, images and others "markers" of the fairy tale in the science fiction works of 1950-80th by American and Russian science fiction writers such as R. Bradbury, K. Simak, A. and B. Strugatsky, K. Bulychev are defined in the work. Similarities and differences in the development of American and Russian science fiction in 1950-80th and the causes and forms of appeal of science fiction authors to the folk fairy tale tradition are revealed in dissertation. Two types of folk fairy tale elements such as implicit and explicit were found. It is proved that implicit folk fairy tale elements are primarily used in the creation of science fiction space and time. Comparative analysis of semantic modifications of the folk fairy tale images related with the category of space (a forest, a garden, a house, an ocean, the sea, a road) and time with taking into account the folklore semantics and peculiarities of the creative style of science fiction writers was done.
