Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the problem of the modern political transformations of gender relations in East and South Asian countries. The author examines the nature of the political transformations of gender relations and specifies that contemporary changes of the gender system are connected with women's rights advancing campaigns and emergence of the new gender order in developed countries. The thesis explores the appearance of the new western model of gender relations and defines the precondition of the origins of the mentioned gender system. On the basis of complex analysis the paper examines the legal, political and economic components of the transformation of gender relations and describes the benefits and pitfalls of the transformation for women's empowerment and economic development at a global level and in East and South Asian countries in particular. It is augmented by the author that in East and South Asian countries political transformations of gender relations are caused by the implementation of the international gender strategies and the western-based gender policies. The paper examines the preconditions of the political transformations of gender relations system in East and South Asian states and underlines that during the last decades the Asian countries have managed to achieve certain progress in setting up the institutional mechanisms for gender equality. It is set that the national legislative framework have been aligned with international standards, special authority bodies have been established, wide range of non-governmental organization developed and women's political and economic status has improved significantly.
