Nahornyi U. Formation and development of the Ukrainian Institution of Citizenship (1917-2007).

The thesis is dedicated to the research of Ukrainian citizenship in historical aspect. It covers the period of revival of the Ukrainian State system and establishment of the Soviet power in Ukraine, the period between wars when Ukraine was a part of the USSR, the period of World War II and the post-war period. It also focuses on developing the institution of citizenship in sovereign Ukraine and the problems of legal regulation of citizenship relations in the territory of the Crimea. There have been determined the stages of development of the institution of citizenship of Ukraine and its characteristic features. International treaties concerning the problems of citizenship optation at the times of territorial changes have been considered. The essence and significance of the European Convention status on citizenship and its influence on the further improvement of Ukraine's legislation have been revealed.
