Essay

The thesis is devoted to investigation of mechanisms of development and possible methods of correction of chronic carrageenan-induced gastroenterocolitis on the experimental model. Modeling of the disease was carried out by free access of experimental animals to 1% solution of carrageenan in drinking water for 2 and 4 weeks, respectively. The development of noticeable interstitial inflammation in the small intestine was morphologically proved and confirmed by biochemical investigations. It was established that the use of a food additive carrageenan was accompanied by an imbalance of the prooxidant-antioxidant system, a significant increase in the content of proinflammatory cytokines in serum, activation of apoptosis and compensatory processes of small intestinal enterocytes regeneration, which was confirmed by biochemical and immunohistochemical (Ki-67) methods. It is proved that the mechanisms of the inflammatory process are based on reactions that are triggered and maintained by the spectrum of cytokines produced by activated macrophages and other cells. The possibility of partial correction of inflammation using compounds with antioxidant properties is shown.
