The objective of the thesis is to improve the efficiency of the complex treatment of patients with metastatic hepatic damages through the use of radiofrequency thermoablation (RFTA). The results of the treatment of 98 patients with metastatic hepatic damages, who underwent RFTA (group 1 - 33 patients) and liver resection (group 2 - 31 patients) are analyzed in the presented work. The treatment group consisted of 34 patients who underwent palliative treatment with chemotherapy. The patients with both synchronous (n=45, 45.9 %) and metahronous (n=19, 19.4 %) hepatic metastases were included into the study. Depending on the disease's course either RFTA alone, or RFTA in the combination with resection of the liver was used. Altogether, in this group 87 metastases with a diameter of 1.0 to 12.0 cm in greatest dimension were destroyed. 12 metastases were subjected to percutaneous RFTA. Analysis of survival in 1st group showed the following: one-year survival equaled to 83.8 %, two - year survival was 54.8 %, three - year survival - 51.6 %, five-year survival rate constituted 48.3 %. The comparative analysis of remote results of surgery showed that one-year survival rate was registered in 40.6 % of cases; two-year - in 26.6 %; three year - in 25%, four - and five-year survival constituted 21.9 %. If conditions are right, it is possible to carry out RFTA either in combination with liver metastases resection, or with different variants of liver resection. Key words: colorectal cancer, liver metastases, radiofrequency thermoablation.
