Dissertation is aimed to improve the outcome of intensive care of patients with alcohol intoxication and it's complications with use of inhalation xenon therapy. This research is based on the study of the course of alcohol intoxication in 137 patients. 67 of them were treated with xenon, 70 were treated only with standard treatment. Impact of therapeutic xenon inhalation on clinical findings, laboratory data and psychometric tests (for assessment of cognitive functions) were taken into consideration for the assesment of safety and effectiveness of the method, it's effect on haemodynamics and respiration rates, blood gas analysis including the study of cerebral oxygen metabolism, EEG (through measuring a BIS-index), degree of sedation (based on RASS scale), presence of delirium (assessed with CAM-ICU scale), cognitive deficits through the MMSE and Wechsler memory tests. It was found, that, if compared to the control group patients, indicators studied had earlier improvement, which, in consequence, is linked to earlier period of convalescence, and testified to the successful application of the method of xenon therapy in this category of patients.
