The object is the novel "The Cancer Ward" by A. I. Solzhenitsyn; the aim is to define the peculiarities of the poetics of the image system in the novel "The Cancer Ward" by A. I. Solzhenitsyn; the methods are biographical, cultural-historical, hermeneutical, comparative, motive, psychoanalytic; the novelty is that the poetics of image system in the novel "Cancer Ward" by A. I. Solzhenitsyn is considered on the basis of the systematic approach for the first time, as a result, the image system of this novel was analyzed in terms of focalization, the role of the images in forming the plot of the novel "The Cancer Ward" was defined, the peculiarities of the image psychologism were specified, the artistic specificity of the image system was proved; the results can be used in further study of works by A. I. Solzhenitsyn, while conducting university and school courses on the history of the Russian literature of the twentieth century, for the preparation of courses and special seminars; the speciality is philology.
