Essay

The object is the philosophical and theological doctrine of Paul Tillich. The aim is to reveal the substantive aspects of the existential-hermeneutic of Tillich's concept in the context of Western philosophy of the first half of the XX century. The methods are the principle of historicism, comparative, phenomenological, hermeneutical, dialectical. The main subject of research is the philosophical and theological teaching of Paul Tillich as an option of the Protestant existentialism of the twentieth century taken in the semantic unity of all its components (ontology, epistemology, hermeneutics, ethics, philosophy, culture and history). Special attention was paid to historical-philosophical roots of an existential hermeneutic concept of P.Tillich. It was shown that the German idealism (I.Kant, F.Schelling G.Hegel), liberal protestant theology of 19th century (F.Schleiermacher, A.Harnack, M.Kahler) an existentialism (S.Kierkegaard, M.Heidegger) - is the main historical and philosophical origins of an existential-hermeneutic conception of P.Tillich. Author draws conclusion that an existential-hermeneutics conception of P.Tillich are extremely important for understanding the main directions of contemporary european philosophy. Application sphere is the training courses.
