Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the complex study of the South-Western Opole microtoponymy at the end of the 18th and at the beginning of the 21th century. 4298 of local propriatives kept in Joseph and Franciscan metrical books and more than 4300 modern denominations of microobjects found in this area first and foremost served for the object of the scientific research work. Gathered lingual facts are analyzed according to the main types of their generating basis within three lexical-semantic groups: appellative, onym and appellative-onym with the purpose to determine the relationship of apellative and onym vocabulary in their core basis. It is ascertained that the largest number among all derivatives are presented by the denominations whose basic units are correlated with the topographic lexems, obviously determined by the geographical position of the researched region. The word building-structural peculiarities of local onyms are also characterized and the productivity of the word building-structural models and definite topoformants are set. This made it possible to state that the most productive in this area appeared to be the lexical-semantic method of word-building, specifically omonymization of apellatives and transonymization of the representants of other categories of the propriative vocabulary. Denominations in the form of descriptive formations are illustrated as rare examples whose main task is to give more detailed description of the location of the denotates in space. They are a peculiar feature of the South-Western Opole microtoponymy system.
