Essay

The dissertation deals with the actual problem of changing in ecological and hydrogeological conditions of fresh water aquifers accompanied by deterioration of resources of drinking groundwater and caused a threat to the ecological security of the region. The spatial-temporal patterns of drinking groundwater contamination was defined, based on data of current quality state of drinking groundwater of the upper Miocene aquifer system. It is defined that during long-term exploitation the average value of drinking groundwater salinity was increased, this process accompanied by anthropogenic metamorphization of groundwater towards HCO3- - SO42-. The main contaminants of drinking groundwater in the region, their genesis and possible effects on health were established. The methodical approach to determining the vulnerability of groundwater aquifer to contamination was perfected, based on such approach the typification of the upper Miocene aquifer system within Kherson oblast' was performed. The natural and anthropogenic factors that affect to the groundwater salinity of the upper Miocene aquifer system were determined.
