Essay

In the dissertation a comprehensive analysis of achievements of historians of law and state, scholars of other legal specialties in the field of legislative provision of state building in the times of Ukrainian Revolution 1917-1921 is done; contribution of scientific schools and research disciplines in the scientific problems' resolving is summarized. Main attention is paid to the elucidation of peculiarities of coverage in historical and legal literature of the most controversial issues related to the building of the nation-state under the conditions of the liberation struggle of Ukrainians in early twentieth century and the role of the legislation in these processes. Terms and concepts which are relevant to the subject of the research: "legislation", "nation building", "Ukrainian revolution 1917-1921", "Liberation struggle", "Hetmanate", "Ukrainian State" et al. are characterized, their essence as well as peculiarities of the interpretation by Soviet scientists, lawyers modern Ukrainian diaspora and domestic scientists are clarified. Candidate for the degree classified historical and legal literature according to the specific signs, genre characteristics, scientific schools and disciplines. The peculiarities of understanding of the studied period legal reality by representatives of the scientific schools of Ukrainian diaspora were found out. Biased nature and prejudice of the Soviet historiographical schools in the coverage of the liberation struggle of Ukrainians in 1917-1921 as well as the theory and practice of nation building was shown.
