Essay

The thesis examines the concept of freedom in modern European philosophy of the XVIIth ? early XIX th century. The specificity of the idea of freedom has been considered in the cognitive and social aspects. In this context the philosophies of T.Hobbes, R.Descartes, F.Bacon, J.Locke, I.Kant, G.Hegel and others have been analyzed. The views of these thinkers on the nature of relationship between freedom and necessity, their attempts to systematize them have been revealed.
